As an award-winning journalist, historian, writer, and online entrepreneur, I’ve dedicated my life to sharing stories that shape our world. I believe in the power of words to convey dreams, ideas, and experiences. My journey as a writer began in an extraordinary childhood as an Army brat, experiencing the harmonious world Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., envisioned—a foundation that still informs my work today.
After my family settled in my father's hometown of Lafayette, Louisiana, I later discovered a vibrant culture that inspired my passion for writing and community advocacy. I’ve channeled this passion into my work, from co-publishing Creole Magazine in the 1990s to authoring For Shakespeare's Stepchildren: 10 Essential Writing Tips and Techniques: Secrets of Successful Writers, available on Amazon now.
My professional journey includes diverse experiences, with specialties in content writing, grant writing, historical research, and public relations. I’ve recently embraced online entrepreneurship, leveraging my skills to build an online presence aligned with my passion for storytelling and cultural advocacy that will help others to succeed.
I hold an M.A. in History with a concentration in Public History from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where I was honored as Outstanding Student with the Jamie Guilbeau Award for Public History. My thesis on the desegregation of Southwestern Louisiana Institute has been presented at various conferences and has contributed to ongoing discussions on race and education. My B.A. in English-Journalism was from the same campus, then known as the University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL).
I’ve received numerous accolades for my contributions to journalism, including awards from the Louisiana Press Association and the National Federation of Press Women. Recently, I was recognized as a Creole Honoree for leaving an “indelible mark” on my community by Creole Culture, Inc., and honored as an award-winning journalist and historian in a community display during the African American Heritage Foundation Gala.
My community service is an extension of my commitment to cultural preservation and social justice. I proudly serve as Vice President on both the Bayou Vermilion District Board of Commissioners and the Move the Mindset Board of Directors, and am involved with several other organizations dedicated to preserving Louisiana’s rich heritage.
I continue to embrace freelance writing opportunities and am passionate about promoting South Louisiana's cultural and historical legacy while exploring new horizons as an online entrepreneur.
WOW! Resurrecting 2000-Year-Old Seeds! 😮
