Welcome!

As an award-winning journalist, historian, writer, and online entrepreneur, I’ve dedicated my life to sharing stories that shape our world. I believe in the power of words to convey dreams, ideas, and experiences. My journey as a writer began in an extraordinary childhood as an Army brat, experiencing the harmonious world Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., envisioned—a foundation that still informs my work today.

The Good Samaritan Understood the Assignment:  But — Do We Practice What We Preach?

The Good Samaritan had an assignment to do. He understood the assignment. He completed the task. He did not ponder, or question what he had to do. He did not analyze it. He did not a flip a coin. He acted without hesitation. He responded, a simple reflex. Like inhaling. What

Mastering Simplicity vs. Complexity: Strategies for Success in Business, Career and Personal Life

I did not learn how to drive until I was 25 years old. That is considered old, especially in Louisiana where individuals were driving at age 10 a few generations ago. Might not have been legal, and also, it took place in mostly rural areas. An interviewee once shared with me how she drove the […]

“I Have No Friends”: Building an Online Business as a New or Seasoned Entrepreneur

Her words hung in the air. And hovered over us in loud silence. They were deafening. You really wished that she had never uttered them because you were floored — you were not sure how to react. Who on earth admits to such a thing? And yet, the student worker made the statement as if […]

    Testimonials

“Even from the beginning, it was apparent that beyond her steady reporting, she had a great feel for what was important in a story, and was particularly strong at shining a light on personalities, and could always be counted on to get to the deeper levels of the stories that people carry within them. ”

“There are many writers and editors who can competently put one word in front of another, but Ruth Foote is one of the rare writers who has a sense of the ‘soul’ of the story or article. Her wordcrafting ability, creativity, empathy, and intelligent wit was evident early-on — and has only sharpened since.”

“Her stories are engaging, offering a unique perspective into the thoughts and emotions of the people she profiles. Knowing that you’re getting information from a reliable source that does not infuse its own political views, but reports the news and stories as it should is rare, but Ruth Foote is an exception…”

After my family settled in my father's hometown of Lafayette, Louisiana, I later discovered a vibrant culture that inspired my passion for writing and community advocacy. I’ve channeled this passion into my work, from co-publishing Creole Magazine in the 1990s to authoring For Shakespeare's Stepchildren: 10 Essential Writing Tips and Techniques: Secrets of Successful Writers, available on Amazon now. And recently, I uploaded my thesis in book format, Just As Brutal But Without All the Fanfare: African American Students, Racism, and Defiance during the Desegregation of Southwestern Louisiana Institute, 1954-1964, which tells the inspirational story of the brave young men and women who desegregated the school, today known as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. It became the first higher education institution to desegregate in the Deep South.
