Time to Break Up—and Let the Addictions Go

The holidays barely have time to breathe before they’re replaced—nearly stomped out—as retailers race toward the next sale. One celebration blends into the next until you’re not quite sure what season you’re in anymore. You didn’t imagine it. But one thing is certain, they play on your addictions. Addictions occur also

Welcome!

As an award-winning journalist, historian, writer, and online entrepreneur, I’ve dedicated my life to sharing stories that shape our world. I believe in the power of words to convey dreams, ideas, and experiences. My journey as a writer began in an extraordinary childhood as an Army brat, experiencing the harmonious world Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., envisioned—a foundation that still informs my work today.

Gremlin Bots and Other Terror: Why It’s Vital to Protect Yourself Online!

Often the “hard’ way is the “best” way to learn a lesson even though it is accompanied by physical and/or mental pain. I was not that child who had to be told twice not to touch the stove burner, but I did learn the hard way on why you should not

STOP Playing Small: Grow into Your Purpose!

I’ve probably been playing small all of my life given the fact that I’m a member of the “short people” population, and therefore, have always been in front where I was forced to endure a spotlight. In some cases, it was no problem, such as a group photo or class picture.

Making Peace with AI: Pros & Cons of Using Artificial Intelligence to Enhance Your Life, Career and Business

George Orwell did not have to recruit me. Nor convince me. I was in. I had gotten his message loud and clear the first time I read 1984. I knew what he wrote was not only plausible, but probable because it concerned man, and man was fallible. The Bible had already

So, What Are You Going to Do About It?

Her words hit me which such force, I had to catch my breath. I had to draw in air. Her question — more like her demand — caught me off guard. Completely. It nearly knocked the wind out of me. It felt like a balloon does when it is deflated — that is, if it […]

The Good Samaritan Understood the Assignment:  But — Do We Practice What We Preach?

The Good Samaritan had an assignment to do. He understood the assignment. He completed the task. He did not ponder, or question what he had to do. He did not analyze it. He did not a flip a coin. He acted without hesitation. He responded, a simple reflex. Like inhaling. What can we learn from […]

Is Age Just a Number? Breaking Down Stereotypes and Embracing Ageless Vitality

He looked at me in horror. Add in pure disgust, too. But — I thought the Bible said not to judge, and he was a pastor. He was my coworker also. He had come around the corner just in time to hear us giggling like teenagers about the upcoming Nelly concert. Our Country Grammar idol […]

Sugar, Spice, and a 3rd Grade Fight: What a Childhood Bully’s Threat Taught Me

“I’m gonna beat you up on the last day of school,” he said. I wasn’t quite sure how to respond. How do you respond? To that? I had been on the planet for less than a decade, and my life was in jeopardy. Yet it had not been an overt threat. There was no malice […]

Too Far From the Light: Dylan Doesn’t Live Here Anymore

Dylan died as he lived: His lover clinging to his arm. That is how I heard the police found him: The syringe hanging out. He was most likely another victim of Fentanyl. The phantom drug had struck down so many young people in our community, and across the country, even though I wasn’t quite sure […]

    Testimonials

“Even from the beginning, it was apparent that beyond her steady reporting, she had a great feel for what was important in a story, and was particularly strong at shining a light on personalities, and could always be counted on to get to the deeper levels of the stories that people carry within them. ”

“There are many writers and editors who can competently put one word in front of another, but Ruth Foote is one of the rare writers who has a sense of the ‘soul’ of the story or article. Her wordcrafting ability, creativity, empathy, and intelligent wit was evident early-on — and has only sharpened since.”

“Her stories are engaging, offering a unique perspective into the thoughts and emotions of the people she profiles. Knowing that you’re getting information from a reliable source that does not infuse its own political views, but reports the news and stories as it should is rare, but Ruth Foote is an exception…”

My journey as a writer began in an extraordinary childhood as an Army brat, experiencing the harmonious world Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., envisioned—a foundation that still informs my work today.

After my family settled in my father's hometown of Lafayette, Louisiana, I later discovered a vibrant culture that inspired my passion for writing and community advocacy. I’ve channeled this passion into my work, from co-publishing Creole Magazine in the 1990s to authoring For Shakespeare's Stepchildren: 10 Essential Writing Tips and Techniques: Secrets of Successful Writers, available on Amazon now. And recently, I uploaded my thesis in book format, Just As Brutal But Without All the Fanfare: African American Students, Racism, and Defiance during the Desegregation of Southwestern Louisiana Institute, 1954-1964, which tells the inspirational story of the brave young men and women who desegregated the school, today known as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. It became the first higher education institution to desegregate in the Deep South.
